Water Chemistry
Water stable isotopes of H and O are distinctive in each formation and region of the Alberta basin as are the injection thermal recovery waters. Monitoring water circulation as steam and estimating the amount of recycled water are common procedures of thermal recovery operations. Thus the water signatures can be used to understand subsurface mixing, steam chamber growth and drilling mud contamination. In addition, managing steam quality and dissolved electrolytes requires careful monitoring and mixing of make up water for the boiler feed water. Even accurate pay thickness estimates from geophysical logs, i.e., determination of the water-oil transition zone or basal water requires good water resistivity data which are often not available.
Some of the analytical services that we perform on water are as follows:
- Anions
- Cations
- Conductivity/Resistivity
- Conductivity/Salinity (TDS)
- pH
- Isotopes - Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, Sulfide, and Sulphate
- Data Interpretation and Reporting
